McPherson wines get three awards

Three vines from Lubbock's McPherson Cellars were honored at last month's Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Awards. The local winery's Roussanne, Texas 2010, received a best of class, gold medal award. Silver medals were awarded to the Syrah, Texas 2010 in the Rose, Rhone Stylem Syrah, Texas 2010, and Viognier, Texas 2010.

Tech gets free market economics institute

Texas Tech University System officials announced the receipt of an anonymous $1.2 million gift to the Texas Tech University Department of Economics to create the Institute for the Teaching and Study of Free Market Economics . The gift, part of the system's billion-dollar Vision & Tradition campaign, provides funds for the department to hire three new faculty members including one full professor and two junior faculty. The institute is expected to supplement the department's course offerings, support research and encourage interdisciplinary dialogue on the behavior of free markets and the effects of marketplace intervention.

Senior care firm offers emergency kit

Chick-fil-A grand opening slated

Chick-fil-A will open its second free-standing Lubbock restaurant Thursday at 6412 82nd St. But the festivities will start at 6 a.m. Wednesday when the restaurant begins letting customers set up camp in the parking lot to be among the first 100 customers when the doors open officially 24 hours later. The first 100 adult customers will win a year's worth of Chick-fil-A dinners. The first phase, early Wednesday morning is the "raffle period," in which potential entrants sign up for a chance at the giveaway. If more than 100 people are present during the raffle period, a drawing will be held for the 100 Participant spots and 10 alternates. To win, participants must remain at the restaurant for the full 24 hours, along with following other rules. Polka Dot Ribbon Bulletin Board | Decorative Packaging

Polka dot ribbon is so fun. It comes in a variety of colors and the size of the pattern.  I love polka dots. I think that is because my nursery paper had pink polka dots.  I used similar wall paper for my oldest daughter’s nursery but in pink with white polka dots.  These cute dots don’t have to be limited to nursery’s I’m sure most remember the old song about the yellow polka dot bikini.

In the spring, many out fits will have polka dots on them.  Fancy hats with a polka dot ribbon band have been worn by many.  Little girl’s hair bows are so cute when they are made with polka dot ribbon.  Clowns are famous for wearing polka dots and nothing says fun like a clown.

Scrap-booking pages are perfect places for polka dots and other decorative ribbon.  I think these bulletin boards so easy to make.  They can be made in any size and shape.  Choose the size cork board and cover it with your desired fabric.  You can staple it to the back of the cork board or hot glue it because it will not show.   Arrange the polka dot ribbon evenly spaced on top and stretch tight by tacking one end to the back then the opposite end.  I suggest tacking all the ribbon in one direction first then weaving the second directionally ribbon in one at a time and tacking in the same way.  Making sure you get it tight.  Decorative push pins can be used at each intersection to add design and texture to the board and keep photos from sliding down.
