Everything falls into place for Death of Paris

Once in a while, the stars align and everything seems to come together perfectly.

That seems to be the case for local band Death of Paris, according to guitarist Blake Arambula. The band shares a feeling that they were meant to play together.

"Between the five of us, we all feel like we have the lineup that was meant to be for the band," he said in a recent interview ahead of the band's headlining performance at the House of Blues on Saturday. "Everyone's commitments, goals and schedules align with one another and it makes doing this very enjoyable."

Death of Paris is made up of lead singer Jayna Doyle, lead guitarist Patrick Beardsley, guitarist Arambula, bassist Pat North and drummer Bryan Bass. Doyle and Arambula are both from Myrtle Beach; Beardsley is from Sumter; North is from New York and Bryan hails from Charleston.

Arambula took the time recently to answer some questions about how the band came together, how he got his start in music and what memorable moments he's had so far in the music business.

This group began around July of 2009. Jayna and I were both in our previous band, This Machine is Me, and when it sort of dissolved in July, we began to write some new material. We began writing under the name Death of Paris then, and that December we booked time for the following May to head to Los Angeles to record an album.

When we got back from LA in May we began rehearsing with different people, but nothing really clicked for the next couple of months. Finally, last November we met Patrick Beardsley in a coffee shop and Pat North at his old band's punk rock show, and in February Bryan Bass responded to an ad we put out and has since become our permanent drummer.

After being born at Grand Strand hospital, I lived in Myrtle Beach for seven years before heading to North Carolina when my parents transferred jobs. I stayed there for four years and then came back, this time to Carolina Forest, right before middle school began. From there I left and headed to Columbia for college in 2005, which is where I coincidently met Jayna, who was attending the University of South Carolina, as well.

It had to have been from when I was really young.

Growing up, my mother had always surrounded me with music. She was constantly singing, and while we were living in North Carolina, she got really big into the karaoke scene. I would tag along some nights whenever they would allow children to be in the bar, which was only really until about 10 p.m.
