Coup anniversary uncomfortable for Labor
Transcript ALI MOORE, PRESENTER: The Government was trying to move on today as the anniversary of the coup against Kevin Rudd focussed attention on how badly the party's been tracking since it deposed him.But as Labor tried to avoid looking back, there's a fight over the future of the Liberal Party, with a group of former Howard government ministers trying to install one of them as federal president.
Political Correspondent Tom Iggulden has more from Canberra.
TOM IGGULDEN, REPORTER: A changing of the guard.
Lieutenant General Ken Gillespie handed over control of the Army, part of a reshuffle at the top of Defence.
A year ago Kevin Rudd was removed as prime minister with a lot less notice and none of the ceremony.
FEMALE 1: I think Julia Gillard isn't doing a good enough job and also I think Kevin was sacked really unfairly and in a really dirty way.
TOM IGGULDEN: But for the Prime Minister, it's just another day at work.
REPORTER: Morning PM.
JULIA GILLARD, PRIME MINISTER: Good morning.
REPORTER: Happy anniversary.
JULIA GILLARD: Thank you.
TOM IGGULDEN: Some call it 'assassination day' others 'liberation day'. Whatever the name, polls have worsened for Labor since the coup.
GARY GREY, SPECIAL MINISTER OF STATE: I think it was, I do think it was a tough year, only a fool would suggest it hasn't been.
TOM IGGULDEN: There was an almost terminal loss of seats at the last election and a promise about a carbon tax that's come back to haunt the Government.
JULIA GILLARD: I've explained, of course, to the Australian people that I never meant to mislead anybody during the last election campaign.
TOM IGGULDEN: But she's bringing it on anyway.
JULIA GILLARD: We'll be explaining it to people. I think that will take months and months and months of explanation, it's a big reform it's not something that people will digest in the first five minutes of seeing the press conference when it's announced.
TOM IGGULDEN: Despite the difficulties, few in Labor are unhappy with the move.
TONY BURKE, MINISTER FOR SUSTAINABILITY, ENVIRONMENT, WATER, POPULATION AND COMMUNITIES: Well you ask if anyone, I guess, there's probably one.
TOM IGGULDEN: And today that one was back in his home state.
KEVIN RUDD, FOREIGN MINISTER: It's good to be back in Brissie.

With that handy, if they come back with, 'no way' I can go back at them hard saying they are BS'ing me and call their bluff. you will need their help in the future. They cant "sell" your approved labor(as in the past), it belongs to you and you only. Your priority date would be the day you filed your labor so that doesnt change.
