Paisley, Shelton, Niemann wow 'em
Opener Jarrod Niemann opened the show at 7:55 p.m. and played his breakout singles "Lover, Lover" and "What Do You Want From Me?" Blake Shelton took the stage. Shelton performed his newest singles such as "Honey Bee," as well as the songs that started his career in 2001, "Austin," and closed with his big hit, "Old Red."
Maysa Halouska, 20, of Alliance came mainly for Blake Shelton. She said her favorite song is “Austin.”
Along with his hits, Shelton performed a string of covers that ranged from 70s funk to classic rock, and often walked out onto a runway that stretched into the crowd.
He said he was honored to be on the Nebraskaland Days show.
"I've been trying to figure out for two weeks why a guy like Brad Paisley would want me to come on tour with him," he joked.
Then was the moment North Platte has waited a year for, as Brad Paisley walked on, wearing a simple t-shirt, jeans and work boots. Paisley was high energy and his set list transitioned smoothly and quickly.
He broke into several guitar solos, while faces, cars and tributes to 9-11 played on the screen behind him, as well as heroes who died (such as Mayberry deputy Don Knotts, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Cash, Elvis and firefighters at the World Trade Center) showed on a screen behind him.
Fans were enthusiastic throughout the evening.
“I really like Brad Paisley, he reinvents himself… creates his own genre… separates himself from the rest with his notable guitar playing. It’s amazing to see all these big stars like Brad Paisley come to small towns like North Platte to express their dedication to their fans,” Haremza said.
Kim and Vern Orr of North Platte have been listening to Paisley for about 10 years. They said their favorite love song is “Then.”
Linsey Johnson, 31, of Lexington first heard Brad Paisley in 2000. Since then she’s seen him twice in Comstock and been a big fan ever since.
Bryant Haremza, 21, of North Platte, thought is cool of Paisley to come to North Platte.
"These aren't the best of times to be in, economically," Paisley told the crowd as he took one of many walks out on the runway stage to screaming fans. "I just want to thank you all for spending your money (to come here).
