Book Nerds Across America: Breaking Dawn: Preface - Chapter 2

According to the definition, a preface is a statement by an author that explains a book's scope, intention, or background.  To me, it provides nothing more than a state of confusion until I have finished the book.  Since this is a re-read, it now makes complete sense.  The Breaking Dawn preface is a statement from Bella that foreshadows the difficult pregnancy she experiences in this book. During chapter one we learn that Bella has FINALLY accepted Edward's marriage proposal.  We get to experience them sharing their big news with both of her parents.  Her father reacted as we would have expected, with a state of shock.  Her mother surprised us by reacting favorably and supporting Bella's decision, as long as she was happy.  We also learn that Jacob ran away and is spending some time up in Canada.  As part of their marriage conditions, Bella agreed to allow Edward to buy her a new car when her truck expired.  To her dismay, this occurred shortly after they became engaged.  She is now driving a Mercedes that could sustain the impact of world war 3 and draws a considerable amount of attention.  The last part of the chapter involves the final fittings for Bella and Charlie.  While Charlie feels that he looks like an idiot, I loved Alice's quote "No one dressed by me ever looks like an idiot."  Bella goes to her "happy place" during her fitting, which involves Edward making good on his side of the agreement while they are on their honeymoon. My favorite part of this chapter has to be Edward asking Charlie for his blessing.  He is so well spoken that it never ceases to amaze me.  The way he phrases things is nothing short of perfection.  I will not recite the entire quote, but this should be used as a reference for all future gentlemen wishing to ask a lady's parents for her hand in marriage.  At the beginning of chapter two, we learn that it is the night before Bella and Edward's wedding.  They are spending some quite time alone together until Edward's brothers arrive to take him out for his "bachelor party."  After he leaves, Bella begins to worry about tripping over the long train of her dress, potential conflicts between the werewolves and the Denalis vampires, and finally about meeting Tanya, who "made a play" for Edward ages ago.
