My Kingston: Shaffer 'Ne-Yo' Smith
What was your first impression of Kingston?
I've been to Kingston twice, and to Jamaica as a whole three times. I love it here, and I'm especially enjoying this trip because it's the first time I've had the chance to really experience the place — the first two times I just came in for shows so I didn't get to do much hanging out. I think Kingston is a beautiful place and it has great character. Everybody was telling me it could be somewhat dangerous, but what place isn't dangerous? I wasn't worried about that. I love it.
Where have you been thus far?
I've been to Susie's and Fiction thus far; I'm really loving the Jamaican nightlife. Unfortunately I'm leaving tomorrow, but I'll be back for the Independence weekend in Negril.
Share some places in your black book.
Wow, I've been to pretty much everywhere in the world already because of my career, except for Alaska, China and South America.
Do you plan to visit those places eventually?
Absolutely.

The 48 Laws of Power... it's an okay book.
What's your middle name?
Chimere.
Have you had a chance to try some authentic Jamaican cuisine as yet?
Some of it... some if it I liked, some I could live without (laughs).
What has been your most memorable meal in Kingston?
Hmmm, somebody gave me some curried goat and it was amazing... until I found out what it was. I don't think I can do the goat too much (laughs). I also tried the curried chicken and jerked chicken and they were pretty awesome.
Which Jamaican artistes would you be interested in working with?
Anybody who's down for making some classic music and has a passion for music and a passion for creativity.
What are your current projects?
I'm putting together my fifth album right now, so look out for that in September. I have a line of hats coming out real soon, and I have a cartoon that I wrote, produced and directed with Cartoon Network that should be airing real soon; and, of course, Compound Island — the Jamaican/Caribbean arm of my record label Compound Entertainment that will be based here.
