Both coaches have agreed to potential salary reductions, in line with reductions proposed for all NSHE faculty and staff.
“Recommending these contract extensions now reflects our intention to sustain momentum for these successful Nevada Wolf Pack programs,” said Cary Groth, University of Nevada athletics director.
The terms of Ault’s contract extension adds two additional years to his current contract which ends June 30, 2012. His contract will extend to June 30, 2014. Although his contract calls for a $25,000 annual salary increase, Ault has indicated his decision to forgo the increase in the coming year and to voluntarily incur a 4.8 percent salary reduction on the portion of his salary funded through the State of Nevada’s budget allocation to the University. This percentage reduction is comparable to that approved by the Regents today for all NSHE faculty and staff.
Ault’s current, annual salary is $443,092, of which $166,104 represents state funds. Under his current contract, Ault’s annual salary would have been $476,065 as of July 1, 2011. With the voluntary adjustments, Ault’s salary for fiscal year 2012 will be $435,119, of which $158,131 represents state funds.
“Wolf Pack football had an incredible season last year, one that put the program on the national radar and energized our community of Wolf Pack fans,” said Cary Groth, “Coach Ault is an experienced, successful coach, and he remains the right person to lead this program.”
“Chris Ault’s passion, drive and dedication can’t be matched, and I am very pleased to know he will remain at the helm of the Nevada Wolf Pack football program for three more years,” said Marc Johnson, University president.
“In light of our statewide troubled economy and the cuts many of our state workers are enduring, I felt it was important to share in the reductions,” Ault said. “I appreciate the support of President Johnson and Cary, and look forward to the continued building of our football tradition and success.
