Hamilton in hand, B's look ahead to Day 2

Much of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft’s focus has been on options for the Boston Bruins in the first round, and rightfully so. But what about the event’s second day, which will cover rounds two through six?

New England Hockey Journal brings you a quick look at some players who could be targets for the B’s, who have five second-day picks.

Adam Clendening, D Boston University (HE). Undersized, but strong and skilled puck-mover, is coming off of a solid freshman season with the Terriers. Bonus points for growing up in Buffalo, N.Y., a diehard Bruins fan. Being drafted by the Black and Gold would be a lifelong dream for Clendening and his family.

Kale Kessy, LW Medicine Hat (WHL). Compared to Milan Lucic more than any player in the 2011 draft, this rugged and nasty winger was buried under a talented group of Tigers forwards. If he can improve his first step quickness -- like Lucic did -- Kessy could become a similar impact player with his good hands and aggressive nature.

Shane Prince, LW Ottawa (OHL). Small but speedy playmaking winger has put in a lot of effort in the weight room to build up his strength. New York native left home at 15 for the OHL and broke out this season with 88 points on the top line. Should the B’s go defense in the first round, Prince’s offensive skill makes sense for them at No. 40 if he’s there.

Ryan Sproul, D Sault Ste. Marie (OHL). A meteoric draft riser after being a diamond-in-the-rough playing in the OJHL to start the season. Scored 14 goals after November, which is an amazing stat for a draft-eligible defenseman in his first OHL campaign. Raw, but big and skilled -- could be a home run pick assuming he slides to Boston at No. 40.

Brett Ritchie, RW Sarnia (OHL). This power winger struggled with injuries and a bout with mononucleosis, which limited his effectiveness. However, he emerged as one of Canada’s best forwards in the Under-18 tournament. When on his game, he’s a horse along the walls, takes the puck hard to the net and has a wicked shot that he can pick the corners with. Not an overly physical specimen, he is nevertheless the kind of player you win with in the modern NHL.

Alan Quine, C Peterborough (OHL). A disappointment this season after a slow start with Kingston facilitated his trade to Peterborough as part of the Ryan Spooner package. A top-end playmaking center who was a high OHL draft pick and is capable of much more than he showed this season. Could be worth a gamble on in the third round.

Having owned many Giro helmets, and currently having a high end model, this is an excellent Giro for the price.The expensive models really give you huge vent openings, but this one is pretty good.The styling is excellent and the dial fit adjustment is comparable to the RocLoc system of the higher models.If you need a nice bike helmet at a good price, this is certainly a great choice. However, make sure you measure your head!This is listed as a universal fit Womens model, which is a total joke.I bought this for my 3 year old daughter, who has a head that measures more than mid-way in the fit range, and it fits her great.On the other hand, my wife who wears a medium Giro Monza, a not-uncommon size for many women, could never fit into this helmet and it almost looks like she's trying to fit a kids helmet on her head.Obviously this will fit many women, but don't read "universal sizing" and order without measuring your head. The Skyla fit range is 50 to 57 cm.In comparison, a medium Giro helmet is 55-59cm (Roc-loc limits) because it also has a larger shell.By the way, the Giro Flume children's specific model has the same fit range of the Skyla of 50-57cm, and the Giro Rodeo toddler helmet is 50-55 cm. When a Womens helmet has almost the same range as a toddler helmet, you know Giro is trying to limit the number of women who will fit into this helmet, forcing many to move up to the more expensive models that come in sizes; and there are some good reasons to buy the expensive models like fit, Roc-Loc system quick adjustability, and increased air flow. The Giro Skyla Sport Bike Helmetfor women is constructed with in-mold technology that fuses a tough outer microshell to the helmet's EPS foam liner. The fusion process reinforces areas around vents and ribs, making the helmet lighter, cooler and tougher. The Skyla utilizes Giro's Acu Dial system, which combines single-handed adjustment with a full-fit band for a quick, sure fit. This Giro helmet features a snap-fit visor, and 20 vents that allow cool, fresh air in and stale, warm air out. Working late nights in his garage, designer/bike racer Jim Gentes created the first lightweight adult cycling helmet in 1985. Friends at NASA helped tune the final helmet shape and vent placement, and the result was the Giro Prolight, a helmet that was better looking than traditional designs while offering a superior fit and still met the industry's toughest safety standards. Plus, it was half the weight of traditional helmets.
