Steve Gadd, Lee Ritenour, Marcus Miller, Tom Scott, Billy Childs, Christian McBride, Peter Erskine, Alex Acuna, Alfonso Johnson, Larry Goldings, Chuck Berghofer, Bob James, Keiko Matsui, David T Walker... These and other top jazz musicians gathered at the Capitol Studios in Hollywood on March 23 and 24 to record a very special charity album. All of them have special appreciation for Japanese fans who have enthusiastically supported jazz, the uniquely American art form jazz.
Producer Larry Robinson of Avatar Records conceived the idea of a charity CD and in less than two weeks, the two-day recording session was in progress, thanks to the Capitol Studios and others who generously donated the studio time and volunteered their time. Nobody involved in this project, from recording engineers and caterers, made a dime, and the musicians played their hearts out, thinking about their Japanese friends and hoping to make a positive impact through music.
I was fortunate enough to be in the studio on March 24 to witness the recording (you can read my report here , and I am extremely happy now to make available the resulting album to my customers. I don't have to tell you the caliber and musicianship of those who participated in the recording. The 2-disc set includes 14 tracks, all great performances of jazz standards, both in straight ahead and contemporary flavors.
This is a great jazz album in and of itself. As a bonus, by purchasing this CD, you can make a difference in the lives of the earthquake victims in Japan. As a Japanese citizen living in the U.S., I THANK YOU for your kindness and generosity!
